Robert Luckain-Rowl's dream is to be an entrepreneur, owning a business that ensures the world is more energy efficient and providing resources for generations to come.

Robert, 19 and a freshman at Drexel University in Philadelphia, is making his dreams a reality, thanks in part to The Prudential Foundation Scholarship Program. Majoring in material science and engineering, Robert is one of 50 students—all children or grandchildren of Prudential employees—who were awarded aid in 2015 through The Prudential Foundation Scholarship Program.

"I've been with Prudential for 16 years, and I'm proud to work at a company that cares about the community, education and the children of its employees," says Michelle Luckain-Rowl, Robert’s mom and an administrative assistant for Individual Life Insurance in Fort Washington, Pa. "The scholarship was extremely helpful as Robert transitioned into his freshman year of college and helped with new college costs including books."

Since 1990, The Prudential Foundation has offered college-bound children of full-time and part-time employees, as well as its eligible subsidiaries, an opportunity to apply and compete for scholarship support.

The program offers two unique award opportunities to employees. The first is a needs-based scholarship that weights academics, financial need, extracurricular activities and community service equally. Each award is renewed at $1,500 per year, totaling a maximum of $6,000 over four years, as long as continued financial need is demonstrated. The second is a non-renewable $1,500 honorarium for those who opt not to complete the financial data portion of the application. Both awards continue to stress academic excellence as a critical component and benchmark.

"Prudential has a long history of providing access to quality education for all students and helping its employees is no exception," says Spring Lacy, vice president, Corporate and Community Engagement. "The Prudential Foundation Scholarship Program is a shining star in the benefits that the company provides to employees. The program is just one way the company offers support for our parents as they prepare their children who are heading off to college."
