Director, Actuarial – Actuarial Projections Capabilities Team

Description
The Projections Capabilities Team is a newly created area as part of the Actuarial Projections Center of Excellence (CoE). The Capabilities team is responsible for working with multiple business partners such as Modeling CoE and Finance to:
  • Drive the development of capabilities to support full financial projections (including balance sheets and income statements) for the domestic business units
  • Enable the Projections CoE to utilize those projections to proactively develop insights and analysis to influence and drive business decisions, and,
  • Support the Deterministic Projections Capabilities (DPC) program to ensure actuarial projection capabilities can support stress testing requirements
The Process and Data Strategy Team within the Capabilities Team is seeking an individual with a high degree of intellectual curiosity, the ability to devise creative solutions to problems, and a continuous improvement mindset. This person will partner with teams across Actuarial and Finance to drive the development and optimization of a workflow for the end-to-end forecast process within Actuarial. He or she will play a critical role in driving operational improvements to Actuarial’s forecast process, leveraging deep insights and business process optimization techniques.

Qualifications

Primary job responsibilities include:
  • Lead the creation of a comprehensive workflow for Actuarial’s forecast process
  • Work with teams across Actuarial to identify and prioritize key areas of inefficiency and highlight opportunities to reduce this inefficiency
  • Develop method for providing data driven recommendations for efficiency opportunities
  • Identify and measure key performance indicators to track success of operational improvements
  • Manage the Deterministic Projection Capabilities (DPC) test plan on behalf of Actuarial
  • Provide full inventory of Actuarial Forecast data hand-offs to inform requirements for the forecast development of the Actuarial Liability Data Warehouse
  • Support the development of a multi-year strategic roadmap to illustrate strategic vision for actuarial projection platforms and surrounding model processes
  • Support the development of the implementation path for short- and long-term needs of actuarial data transmission to downstream process across various projection process
  • Support the process map creation of existing and “to-be” projection processes
  • Serve as a technical process expert for projection-related processes; help define future state vision for these processes
Desired Qualifications and Characteristics:
  • 5+ years experience in an actuarial function or process and control function. ASA is a plus.
  • High-energy individual who brings positivity and optimism to their work
  • Strong organizational skills coupled with a high degree of curiosity on current processes and systems
  • Ability to conceptualize and communicate complex processes and inter-relationships
  • Ability to collaborate to develop creative yet practical solutions to challenging problems in order to meet the needs of customers
  • Ability to translate effectively between business needs and technical solutions (i.e., between model end users and model builders)
  • Six Sigma or a related certification is desired
