About the position
The Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) will build and lead AssuranceIQ’s Compliance function, playing a leading role in the organization’s ongoing efforts to comply with governing law, regulations, and internal policies as it joins the Prudential family and continues to expand its footprint. The CCO will report directly to Prudential’s Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer with a dotted line into the Chief Administrative Officer at AssuranceIQ.
As leader of AssuranceIQ’s Compliance group, the CCO will manage a team of three (3) professionals based in Seattle and will be responsible for carrying out the Compliance group’s mandate for all current and future business. This position will work with the broader AssuranceIQ executive team on both strategic and tactical matters as they relate to business growth, corporate planning and business initiatives, data privacy, insurance laws and regulations, and other regulatory matters. The CCO will be important in the continued growth and evolution of the business, protecting AssuranceIQ’s brand and reputation, and managing the complex compliance requirements of a growing digital direct-to-consumer insurance platform. The CCO will have the opportunity to take a fresh look at the group’s business strategy and advise senior management of relevant and evolving regulatory risks and propose alternate solutions and processes.
- Oversee the development, implementation and maintenance of all compliance risk management programs.
- Develop and operationalize a strategic plan for the assessment as well as compliance oversight and monitoring of critical business operations.
- Serve as a key member of the extended leadership team as a business partner to senior operating executives by participating in key decisions pertaining to strategic initiatives.
- Lead, manage, develop, and where necessary recruit, a diverse team using effective training, performance assessment and coaching techniques.
- Address changes in regulations and communicate to senior management and how they affect AssuranceIQ’s compliance programs.
- Oversee the development and evolution of policies, procedures, and programs as industry practices and applicable laws and regulations change.
- Report on the adequacy and effectiveness of the Compliance programs using appropriate metrics.
- Oversee the preparation of reports for various internal governance committees.
- Advise senior executives on the design and delivery of regulatory training for AssuranceIQ employees and other related associates.
Regulatory and Executive Consultation
- Demonstrate confident leadership, sound judgment, creativity, a practical approach and commitment to achieving excellence in compliance risk management; and the ability to do so on the basis of a risk-based model.
- Maintain strong and trusted relationships with key regulators.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with senior management. Work with senior management to promote understanding of business-specific risks, regulatory requirements and their impact upon operations.
- Advise senior management on the implementation and resolution of compliance policies and issues.
Compliance & Industry Experience
A recognized leader in compliance with a career defined by the hands-on creation and execution of enterprise-wide compliance programs within a major financial services company.
Strong compliance background and acumen and problem-solving skills at the highest level.
Experience working with and credibility with regulators.
Strong digital and technology mindset and experience working in a growth and/or innovation-oriented culture
Understanding of the insurance, financial services and related technology landscape, sales cycle and regulatory framework; some brokerage experience preferred.
The ability to create and articulate an inspiring vision for the compliance organization, and the ability to communicate the importance and impact of compliance to the organization as a whole.
The ability to see compliance needs in advance, and to proactively work with colleagues across AssuranceIQ and Prudential to develop solutions.
