Director, Defined Benefit Product Segment Support
Prudential Retirement provides financial wellness solutions, including investments and recordkeeping, for the Defined Contribution, Defined Benefit, Non-Qualified and Individual markets. Currently our client base includes 3,500 corporate, governmental, non-profit and Taft Hartley plan sponsors and more than 4.2 million individuals. The Defined Benefit Segment of our business is a key part of Prudential’s value proposition.
This highly visible leadership role resides in our Full Service Solutions (FSS) business and it will report directly to the DB P&L owner within the FSS business. This position will help to create an end-to-end view of our DB business and its future opportunities, including developing a long-term strategy, business plan, drive product enhancement and business model efficiency. The role will support the DB business plan execution, including delivering on existing business commitments, ensuring exceptional client experience, risk management and optimizing strategic investments across the DB portfolio.
For this position, he or she should have a demonstrated ability to excel in a matrix environment and to quickly and effectively gain cross functional alignment with key partners within and outside of the FSS business (including Individual Solutions, Operations, Client Relationship, Marketing, Technology, Financial Wellness Office, Workplace Solutions Group, Customer Office, and other U.S. Business Partners). The director should be passionate about driving change and willing to learn from all levels within the organization.
Responsibilities in Support of the DB Business
  • Assist the VP of Defined Benefit Product in managing the P&L results. Key contributor to the development of Prudential’s Defined Benefit business plan cost-saving commitments, achievement of sales growth targets and improved client/revenue retention.
  • Contribute to alignment of DB within the Total Retirement Solutions service offering; including integration with the Defined Contribution and and Non Qualified businesses. This responsibility includes but is not limited to defining the business value proposition, supporting client specific needs, and sales opportunities.
  • Support the development of the DB product roadmap to support business strategy, operating plans and end-to-end the customer experience including short term and long term objectives. In addition, the expectations of the job include delivering the roadmap internally to various business constituents and to drive the key messages that will be socialized amongst all parties. In addtion, there will be a need to deliver on key strategic initiatives on the roadmap, effectively manage risk and manage sustained profitable growth.
  • Assist the VP of Defined Benefit Proudct to prioritize strategic DB investments, evaluate trade-offs and assess opportunities/risks, specifically to track each initiative, progress and to provide a cost benefit analysis in determinng the prioritization methods
  • Collaborate closely with other Product Segment partners including Defined Contribution, Non-Qualified, and Individual, to optimize cross-business strategic investments. In addition, this position may require the ability to work with third party vendors.
  • This position is expected to keep/manage an overall business plan and maintain various supporting documents to track the progress of the business plan and also define any needs for gap resolution.
  • Be a champion for resolution of product issues (e.g.,quality, delivery, etc.) – Documentation of business challenges, put forth a plan for resolution and manage the outcome

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years working with Defined Benefit Plans.
  • 5+ years retirement and financial services experience, demonstrated financial acumen and analytical ability.
  • Demonstrated success as a positive change agent that led meaningful process improvement efforts and business transformation; approaching each task with a ‘can do’ attitude and a goal of motivating and inspiring others.
  • FINRA series 6 required, to be obtained within 120 days of employment.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA preferred
  • Relentless focus on client experience; broad knowledge and experience in managing investments, services, distribution, delivery and/or client relationships.
  • Strong skills in working with a cross-functional team and succeeding in a culture consistent with Prudential core values
  • Experience in effectively engaging with clients, advisors and third parties and driving optimal business outcomes.
  • Strong influencing skills, proven track record building consensus driving results in a fast paced, fluid, heavily matrixed and highly regulated environment.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and negotiating win-win outcomes effectively and tactfully.
  • Ability to approach work with intellectual curiosity and transparency, with an openness to giving and receiving feedback. Self-awareness of strengths and opportunities and willingness to learn, grow and improve.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication/presentation skills.
