Technology - Newark (NJ), NJ Senior Cassandra Database Administrator

About the position

CIO Technology & Operations team is seeking a Senior Cassandra Administrator to develop and enhance strategic financial modeling platform’s Cassandra cluster. Platform enables the creation of standardized reusable modeling components with built in capability to analyze results based on historical data and logic. Platform is actively used to build and deploy Artificial Intelligence, Machine Leaning and Financial models by CIO Quant modelers and core team developers, who are experts in their areas and possess advanced degrees. Platform is built on latest Big Data and AI technologies and provides team members tremendous learning and growth opportunities. Successful candidate will be part of Financial modeling platform core team.

Team is looking to enhance data granularity and provide analytic features on top of the simulated data sets. In this role, the candidate will work with various internal groups to deliver architecture, design, development and test artifacts.

This role will partner with developers, quantitative modelers and business users across Prudential to analyze data, cluster performance and security requirements and outline the proposed IT solution. The candidate will be responsible to maintain Cassandra (DataStax Enterprise 6.0 with Solr & Spark) cluster running 24/7 and develop enhancements for future business needs. The candidate will also participate in standard SDLC process using agile methodology and test-driven approach. The candidate will adhere to IT Control Policies through design, development and testing and incorporate Corporate Architectural Standards into application design specifications. Additionally, responsibility will include documentation of deliverables. The candidate will participate in code reviews and ensure that all solutions are aligned to pre-defined architectural specifications; identify/troubleshoot application code-related issues; and review and provide feedback to the final user documentation.


Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years of hands-on development and admin experience with Cassandra 3.x

  • Hands-on experience developing and managing AWS Redshift Datawarehouse environment

  • Strong analytical and communication skills, attention to detail

  • Understanding of financial markets and experience working with market data

  • Java / JVM performance tuning

  • Kafka, Solr and Spark

  • Linux, including the ability to write shell scripts

  • DevOps tools: Git, Docker, Jenkins, Jira, Bitbucket

  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and a dynamic environment

  • Strong partnering skills and ability to work collaboratively across the organization

  • Demonstrated capability in Prudential Leadership Competencies: especially Strong Moral Compass, Taking Appropriate Risks, Collaboration, and Execution

Preferred:

  • DataStax Enterprise (5.x or higher)
  • Solr / Spark / Spark SQL
  • Tableau
  • Python 3.x (Pandas, Jupyter, and other data science packages)
  • Working experience in Agile, Lean, test driven dev methodologies
  • Experience with industry standard tools such as SVN and GitHub
  • Strong knowledge of design patterns and their application in problem solving
  • Knowledge of or experience with financial concepts: stock market, trading concepts, financial instruments, derivatives, hedge funds
  • Bachelors Degree
